Cronulla RSL now home to Trauma Kit

Thanks to Surfers Rescue 24/7, Cronulla RSL is now home to a trauma kit. This kit will be on-hand to rapidly deploy in the event of a life-threatening trauma event on the beach, if our wonderful professional & volunteer lifeguards aren't on patrol.

Developed by Surfing NSW, in partnership with the Department of Primary Industries (DPI) as part of the Shark Smart program, these kits have been purpose-built by TacMed Australia Paramedics and Military Medics.

Program Officer Kathy Walton (Surfers Rescue 24/7) delivers the trauma kit to Community Projects Manager, Natalie Hawkins (Cronulla RSL).

About the Trauma Kit Program

In 2021, Surfing NSW announced a partnership with the Department of Primary Industries (DPI) as part of NSW Government’s 2021-2022 Shark Management Program.

Surfing NSW have provided over 250x custom built surf specific first aid/trauma kits to every single one of their NSW Surf Schools, Boardriding Clubs (short board, mal, bodyboard & SUP) and High-Performance Surf Coaches in the NSW.

The trauma kits were purpose-built by TacMed Australia Paramedics and Military Medics, using top of the line medical equipment developed by multiple militaries, law enforcement and ambulance agencies globally. These kits have been custom designed for surfers, ocean users and beachgoers to rapidly deploy in the event of an immediate, life-threatening trauma event in an aquatic environment. This is a world first initiative, Surfing NSW are extremely proud to be able to provide to these to affiliated clubs, schools, community assets and coaches completely FREE

Cronulla RSL acknowledges that surfers are an asset when it comes to responding effectively in a potentially life-threatening situation. In addition to the trauma kit, the club are also supporting Surfers Rescue 24/7 free CRP & Board Rescue course. The award-winning course teaches crucial board rescue techniques that can be used to assist in an emergency situation and could ultimately save a life. Members and the Cronulla RSL community are invited to participate in the course for free. Find out more here.
