Our story at Cronulla RSL

RSL CLUBS

RSL Clubs were created in communities across Australia to provide a venue for current and ex-serve personnel and their families to enjoy a safe and comfortable place to gather, to enjoy each other’s company, and to share a meal and a drink or two.

As well, these Clubs serve as a place of remembrance for the contribution and sacrifice of all Australia Defence personnel.

RSL Clubs opened their doors, and their social memberships, to the broader Australia community to enable them to share in these benefits and contribute towards the goal of better facilities and services for veterans.

Just over three years later the subbranch purchased what was known as the “Whitelaw” land in Gerrale Street and the first club building was officially opened by the Governor of NSW on May 16, 1953.

It was registered as the Cronulla RSL Memorial Club in June 1953 with over 500 members. Activities included housie, fishing, swimming, cricket, billiards and snooker. By 1960 membership had grown to 1,483 and darts, table tennis, golf, indoor bowls and in anticipation of the new bowling green the first outdoor bowls sub club was formed.

Through this expanded patronage, Cronulla RSL have been able to significantly improve and expand our facilities and services over the years for the benefit of the whole community.

In addition to supporting the welfare of veterans of Australian (& their families) and commemorating the efforts of all who have served our nation in uniform, Cronulla RSL proudly supports community programs.

We aim to provide valuable and meaningful support to our members and the people of the local area. We provide sponsorship and facilitate grants to assist a broad cross-section of needs in our local area, by way of cash and in-kind support to many community organisations who in turn support our local Sutherland Shire region.

The Cronulla “arrey” is now a local institution and shire landmark. Located next to South Cronulla beach, overlooking Cronulla’s picturesque coastline, our club is more than just your typical RSL. With entertainment, amazing food, mouth-watering cocktails, superb views & fantastic service, our guests are sure to enjoy their visits. Membership these days exceeds 30,000 with the most recent refurbishments taking full advantage of the clubs’ spectacular beach side location, whilst still paying homage to its history. .

OUR VALUES

Our Club values are very important to us and is not just a piece of paper on our staff room wall. Our values were created by our staff about 5 years ago and have been lived ever since.  You will see as you walk around our club that each and every Bar attendant is proudly wearing an apron with one of our special values written on it. Here at the club we live and breathe our values to foster an amazing culture where people want to come to work and be part of one big team!
